The Minister of Economy of the Canton of Sarajevo, Adnan Delić, paid a working visit to the Faculty of Science and Mathematics today
As part of efforts to harmonize the supply of professional staff and market needs in the field of IT industry in the area of Sarajevo Canton, the Minister of Economy of Sarajevo Canton Adnan Delić met today at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics with the dean of this faculty, Prof. Dr. Nusret Drešković and representatives of the Department of Mathematics, and the rector of the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), Prof. dr. Rifat Škriljelja.
The goal of this meeting was to find a temporary solution that will bridge the large deficit of personnel in the IT industry.
Representatives of PMF are aware of the needs of the labor market, as well as the need to harmonize study programs with the needs of the economy and the development of new, global markets in order to achieve compatibility and reduce the gap in supply and demand.
In this regard, after an extensive discussion, joint conclusions were reached, the implementation of which will contribute to the popularization of the theoretical computer science study program and the first professional study of Information Technology at the Department of Mathematics, and ultimately lead to the strengthening and expansion of this study program.
“I am glad that in the representatives of the academic community we have interlocutors with whom we speak a common language, and I am glad that today we reached conclusions that are the first step in reducing the barriers between the educational process and the needs of the IT industry,” said Minister Delić.
He added that the proposals of the representatives of the department are in place and that the Ministry of Economy will do everything to support the implementation of today’s conclusions.
“After today’s meeting, according to the joint conclusions, we will start the procedure of renaming the Department of Mathematics to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, which, we believe, will contribute to the popularization and greater number of applications for this study program,” said the head of the Department of Mathematics, Prof. Dr. . Zenan Sabanac.
Rector Škriljelj pointed out that the necessary transformations and reforms are needed in order to harmonize study programs with the needs of the labor market.
“Here at PMF, we have excellent study programs that we can, with the support of the Government, further strengthen and meet the needs of the market. In this convocation of the Government, we have the greatest support ever, and this is the moment when we need to set our priorities and show the commitment of the University to stand with the Government and the needs of the economy with its total capacities, technical and human, so that we can all build a better society for generations to come. after us, because these are not processes that can be completed now and immediately. These are generational processes, and we will be the bearers of those changes”, stated, among other things, the rector.
At today’s meeting, one of the conclusions was the increase of the enrollment quota for this study program from 60 to 100 full-time students, the support of the Sarajevo Canton Government in retaining professional staff, the engagement of industry experts in the field of practical teaching, as well as increased support for the promotion of the study program in cooperation with representatives of the IT industry.
