This degree programme is designed to develop both the depth and breadth in the students' knowledge of mathematics and Informatics, and is also intended to prepare graduates for careers in teaching and other careers in public and private sector for which BSc degree in math and informatics is required. Upon successful completion of this programme students should have the knowledge and skills needed for continuing their education on the next level – second cycle. Depending on their preferences students can through elective courses acquire additional knowledge from various areas of mathematics, didactics and computer science.

Upon succesful completion of the programme students will be able to:

  • Identify, formulate, abstract, and solve mathematical problems that use tools from a variety of areas of mathematics,
  • design mathematical models, apply mathematical analysis and problem-solving skills in math problems that tipically appear in elementary school math courses.

Upon succesful completion of the programme students will be able to:

  • use computer technology, software, and algorithmic processes necessary in quantitative analysis and mathematical modeling,
  • design, implement, and evaluate programs in various programming languages,
  • perform web programming related work,
  • efficiently plan and give instructions for implementing informatics related course projects.

Upon succesful completion of the programme students will be able to:

  • Efficiently interpret and implement current curricula regarding mathematics and informatics courses in elementary schools,
  • combine different teaching methods in creating an interactive classroom learning environment,
  • use different evaluation techniques and make qualified decisions when using a specifis evaluation technique regarding the course goals and outcomes,
  • efficiently plan and give instructions for implementing course projects,
  • compare different approaches to active learning in math and informatics courses.

The holder of BSc in mathematics and informatics education degree is qualified to teach mathematics and informatics courses in elementary schools. Additionally, the holder is qualified to work in various companies and institutions which employ BSc in mathematics and informatics, such as banks, insurance companies, IT companies, etc.

Why study at the Department of Mathematics?


Mathematics as a scientific discipline acts fascinating and is positioned on the top of the pyramid of knowledge. It is a set of ideas that are themselves beautiful enough to engross human attention. It is impossible to imagine any serious scientific discipline without mathematics.

Mathematics occupies a very important place in modern science in which very complex and difficult problems are often solved by reducing them to the mathematical expressions, formulas and equations whose resolution can come up with solutions.

Job opportunities for graduates of the Department of Mathematics are numerous, so that almost all the students immediately after graduation quickly find employment. The best students are offered positions at the Faculty. Students whose major is in mathematical education and teaching easily find employment as teachers or professors of mathematics and / or computer science in primary and secondary schools, and students of other majors are offered a number of places outside educational sector, such as: banks, software engineering house.

Mathematicians and computer scientists are among rare experts who have no problem to find a suitable job.
